These are a lot better then the kids drawing all over the walls! They can stick these on any wall (or hard surface) and they are easily removed with no residue! The can placed and replaced many times, and when your child inevitably outgrows Thomas you can easily take them down. This is the perfect first set to get your younger thomas fanatics! It is relatively inexpensive and you can always build off it with expansion sets later on, of course! We love the water tower and the tunnel bridge. The set seems very sturdy. We always recommend getting tracks like this that are solid for younger kids. The taller Thomas and Friends wooden trains do not fit under the bridge so keep that in mind!

The Thomas Tote-a-train is perfect for Nolyn because he has to many of the smaller take along train sets. This medium sized tote is comparable to your hot wheels carriers for cars – only it’s for Thomas! We have 3 different kinds of Thomas around the house (in literally every room), the Trackmaster variety, the wooden railway sets, and then the smaller take alone tote sized sets. Since these smaller train cars (usually) don’t take batteries that’s a plus – and you can fit about 10 trains in this carrier. When you fold down the side it’s actually a short track, which makes it great for the car too!

Nolyn has a LOT of Thomas trains and toys, but the one in the last 6 months that seems to be his favorite is the Thomas “Shake Shake Bridge”. It has a section of track that shakes as the engines go through it, and no matter how many train layouts he builds – they all seem to contain that section of track. It’s not a very expensive set, you can usually get it for about $20 or so.
Out of all the new train sets we’ve purchased this year, this one has seen the most use. It has fallen logs and bumpy track, and you get a Thomas engine with it (takes one AA battery – but we buy a LOT of batteries!). There was a digital Thomas DVD last year called “Misty Island Rescue” and this playset is modeled after that movie. The dark brown track that comes with it is kinda cool too. Now that Fisher Price has taken over production of the Trackmaster brand, we personally think that the sets are a big higher quality.

you can probably find it on eBay as well, we’ve had a lot of good luck finding Thomas sets on eBay in good shape for a decent price. It sure beats buying everything new at the store (and you can often find things that are no longer for sale):
