Thomas Tote-A-Train for Take a Longs

The Thomas Tote-a-train is perfect for Nolyn because he has to many of the smaller take along train sets. This medium sized tote is comparable to your hot wheels carriers for cars – only it’s for Thomas! We have 3 different kinds of Thomas around the house (in literally every room), the Trackmaster variety, the wooden railway sets, and then the smaller take alone tote sized sets. Since these smaller train cars (usually) don’t take batteries that’s a plus – and you can fit about 10 trains in this carrier. When you fold down the side it’s actually a short track, which makes it great for the car too!

Thomas Shake Shake Bridge is a Favorite

Nolyn has a LOT of Thomas trains and toys, but the one in the last 6 months that seems to be his favorite is the Thomas “Shake Shake Bridge”. It has a section of track that shakes as the engines go through it, and no matter how many train layouts he builds – they all seem to contain that section of track. It’s not a very expensive set, you can usually get it for about $20 or so.

Out of all the new train sets we’ve purchased this year, this one has seen the most use. It has fallen logs and bumpy track, and you get a Thomas engine with it (takes one AA battery – but we buy a LOT of batteries!). There was a digital Thomas DVD last year called “Misty Island Rescue” and this playset is modeled after that movie. The dark brown track that comes with it is kinda cool too. Now that Fisher Price has taken over production of the Trackmaster brand, we personally think that the sets are a big higher quality.

you can probably find it on eBay as well, we’ve had a lot of good luck finding Thomas sets on eBay in good shape for a decent price. It sure beats buying everything new at the store (and you can often find things that are no longer for sale):

Thomas Trackmaster Ben

The Thomas Trackmaster Ben engine is fairly new, and since Nolyn seem to want to collect (and name) them all – we just had to get it. It comes with a single piece of trackmaster track (like they all do) and it takes a single AA battery. Boy – I can’t tell you how many batteries we buy per month (we’re up to the 48 pack at Sam’s club now!). Ben is known from the “troublesome trucks” episodes, and sometimes you can find him packaged with a couple extra cars, or in the “Bill and Ben” Thomas pack (look at the auctions below).

If you have Thomas wooden train, you have to get a wooden Sir Topham Hatt! We had bought a lot of wooden track and wooden Thomas engines, and at first didn’t buy any of the “off-track” things like Sir Topham, buses, trees, switches. We were kind of amazed when Nolyn was 2-3 and we got some of these – that he played out the scenarios from the Thomas and Friends episodes, and how can you do that if you don’t have the boss! Thomas Train VHS

There are a lot of people on YouTube showing their collections of Thomas train VHS tapes. You can’t really buy Thomas video tapes at the store anymore, but we’ve found that you can buy them at garage sales and on YouTube for about $1 apiece! If you have an old VCR lying around, it’s a great way to get your kids lots of Thomas videos on the cheap! Also you can get a USB VCR for the computer for about $50, and then you can record the Thomas videos to your computer and save them on an iPod or DVD’s to watch in the car!

I don’t know what the attraction is exactly, but the Trackmaster Flora from Thomas that Nolyn got was one of the first Thomas trains we ever ordered off the Internet. I believe it was also the first we ordered from eBay. Flora isn’t really a train – she’s a “tram”, with a few different trackmaster (and wooden) versions. To this day – it’s one of Nolyn’s favorite trackmaster cars.
