The Thomas Trackmaster Ben engine is fairly new, and since Nolyn seem to want to collect (and name) them all – we just had to get it. It comes with a single piece of trackmaster track (like they all do) and it takes a single AA battery. Boy – I can’t tell you how many batteries we buy per month (we’re up to the 48 pack at Sam’s club now!). Ben is known from the “troublesome trucks” episodes, and sometimes you can find him packaged with a couple extra cars, or in the “Bill and Ben” Thomas pack (look at the auctions below).

If you have Thomas wooden train, you have to get a wooden Sir Topham Hatt! We had bought a lot of wooden track and wooden Thomas engines, and at first didn’t buy any of the “off-track” things like Sir Topham, buses, trees, switches. We were kind of amazed when Nolyn was 2-3 and we got some of these – that he played out the scenarios from the Thomas and Friends episodes, and how can you do that if you don’t have the boss! Sometimes I think he uses the Sir Topham Hatt more than the others!

There are a lot of people on YouTube showing their collections of Thomas train VHS tapes. You can’t really buy Thomas video tapes at the store anymore, but we’ve found that you can buy them at garage sales and on YouTube for about $1 apiece! If you have an old VCR lying around, it’s a great way to get your kids lots of Thomas videos on the cheap! Also you can get a USB VCR for the computer for about $50, and then you can record the Thomas videos to your computer and save them on an iPod or DVD’s to watch in the car!

The Adventures of James with Free Toby wooden train is the perfect gift set for the child that has wooden Thomas the Tank Engine trains and track. Wooden Thomas trains will last generations, and even though they are more than the plastic ones – they are worth the investment if you intend on passing them down generations. Nolyn has just about every type of Thomas train available, but I can tell you from straight experience, that the wooden Thomas trains last longer! I can’t tell you how many of the plastic ones he’s taken apart over time. I don’t know what the attraction is exactly, but the Trackmaster Flora from Thomas that Nolyn got was one of the first Thomas trains we ever ordered off the Internet. I believe it was also the first we ordered from eBay. Flora isn’t really a train – she’s a “tram”, with a few different trackmaster (and wooden) versions. To this day – it’s one of Nolyn’s favorite trackmaster cars.
